Money: How Should you Divvy your Wedding Funds?
Determining your wedding budget can be very stressful as most money matters are. Regardless of how much (or how little) you choose to spend, by allocating your resources appropriately you can make the most of your wedding day!
The Reception usually accounts for roughly half (or 50%) of the overall wedding budget. Items in this section include the site fee, catering costs, liquor and beverages, as well as the wedding cake, site flowers and decor.
Music & Entertainment is typically 10% of the overall wedding budget. This breakdown includes music for the ceremony, cocktail hour as well as the reception.
Photography too is also 10% of the total budget. This may include your engagement photo, wedding day photography and a wedding album package. Should you choose to add videography to your list, this can increase your total budget by approximately 10%.
Flowers may account for 10% of the budget overall. This usually includes ceremony site flowers, all flowers for the wedding party, as well as centrepieces for the reception. If you have allocated funds in the reception budget (which is 50%) you may reduce this budget amount somewhat.
Wedding Attire for both the bride and the groom usually makes up another 10% of the budget. This includes the wedding dress, groom's tuxedo/suit, veil, shoes, jewelry, hair and makeup.
Wedding Stationery such as engagement announcements, save-the-date cards, wedding invitations, postage, etc., accounts for the another 4% of the overall wedding budget.
The remaining 6% is usually left for Miscellaneous items which always seem to add up. These items include: Gifts, Favours, Wedding Bands, Marriage License, Officiant's fee, etc.
