Cakes: Trends for 2005

This year’s wedding cake trends call for simple sophistication.  Brides are choosing more minimalist and understated stacked cakes over the traditional tiered cakes with pillars.   We are also seeing brides choosing wedding cake colours that are a less traditional than the classic white and opting for colours like cool blue, lilac, and silver as well as bolder choices like periwinkle and fuscia.

Choice of wedding cake flavour is really changing as brides look for something unique and different.  In fact, having different flavours for each cake is common and helps to satisfy every taste bud!  Try white with lemon or chocolate with raspberry or even go tropical and choose coconut!

Cake frosting hasn’t changed too much in that rolled fondant remains the most popular choice.  Add more dimension to your wedding cake though by adding flavour to your frosting - like grand marnier or kahlua!  Many brides are also decorating their cakes with fresh flowers!  If you love chocolate, and most do, a new trend is the chocolate on chocolate wedding cake!

Smaller cakes for each table or even individual cakes for each guest are still popular however they can cost more!
