Ideas: A Summer Country Wedding

Invitations

Handmade paper invitation with pressed seeds would convey to guests that the wedding has a country touch.

Fruit painted or stenciled onto the invitations.  Photo with fruit and vellum overlay with invitation wording on top.  Perhaps a photo of an old barn or split rail fence and country scene with vellum overlay.

Colours

Tangerines, corals, and apple green with white and yellow touches.

Flowers

Dahlias, Gerbera Daises, Cockscomb, variegated Euonymus or Lambs Ear.

Décor

Green and white gingham tablecloths and white slatted chairs or white cotton chair covers with Hypericum berries tucked into the bows.  Have plain silver flatware and crystal stemware with fruit etched into the glass and white china adorning the tables.

Wreaths with wildflowers and fruit, such as tangerines, limes, small apples and peaches with Hypericum Berries.  Centerpieces with orange/tangerine Dahlias, Yellow Gerbera Daisies and coral Cockscomb and variegated Euonymus would look lovely, add Hypericum Berries to give it the country look.

Another great idea would be mason jars with apple or light green polished stones at the bottom, fill with water and add coral or tangerine-floating candles.

Wheelbarrows or other farm implements scattered about with pots of flowers arranged artfully around them.  Hold the reception in an old cleared out barn.  Round tangerine, coral or apple green paper lanterns would jazz things up.  Granny Smith apples on each plate with place cards tacked on with straight pins.  The apples can be eaten later.

Cocktails

Light drinks such as Gin and Tonic garnished with a lemon or lime is nice on a summer day, along with The Lemon Liaison and Day-O Punch.  Something for the D&D’s and abstainers is a non-alcoholic Peach/Cranberry-gingerale punch with floating peach slices.

Food

Have food stations set up, guests can pick and choose what they prefer.

Hor D’Ouerves StationServe Hor D’Ouerves your guests can sink their teeth into such as Cheese Biscuits and Country Ham, Modern Asparagus Rolls, Philo Wrapped Zucchini Sticks and Sautéed Mushrooms with Cheese Fondue Sauce.

Soup and Salad Station Summer Vegetable Soup, Gazpacho with Sherry, Maple Grilled Peach and Spinach Salad, Garden Salad, Napa Coleslaw with Buttermilk Dressing and Avocado and the old stand by of Caesar’s Salad.

Meat Station Serve interesting foods such as Old Dixie Fried Chicken, Ginger Teriyaki and Vegetable Kebabs, Honey Garlic Meatballs and Roasted Portobello Mushroom Quesadilla.  Also have Mini Roasted Potatoes, Grilled Spice Coated Potatoes and Rice available to accompany the meat dishes.

Dessert Station:  Keep that country fruit theme going right through to the dessert and serve Peach Flambé, Peach Angel Cake drizzled with Honey, Lemon Crème Brulee with Vanilla Poached Peaches or Cinnamon Peach with Yogurt and Jarlsberg Melon Salad.

Finish the meal off with Coffee and Lemon Tea.

Favours

Two long homemade beeswax candles in apple or light green and tied together with tangerine, coral or yellow ribbon and a personalized message attached.  Jars of homemade peach jam with personalized message glued to the back of the jar.  Small clay pots painted in various colours and simple daisies on the rim of the clay pot and beeswax candles inserted inside.  For the kids – Small tins of sugarcoated fruit flavoured, soft chewy type candies.
