Décor

Line outdoor entranceway or steps to hall with large or medium sized silver galvanized metal lanterns with white votive candles.  Wrap garlands of Blue Spruce, green Holly or Brazilia berries, silver pinecones with white fairy lights and silver bows around outdoor banisters. Decorate indoor banisters with same as outdoor garland, leave fairy lights out and if there is a mantle decorate with same outdoor garland but add small silver galvanized metal lanterns and white candles.

Tall cylindrical clear vases with light blue tapered, dripless candles and fill base of vase with sugar to make it look like snow.  Centerpieces could be in a light blue square ceramic vases with Blue Spruce, white Astilbe, Veronica, Stephanotis, green Brazilia Berries and silver pinecones or have sprays of blue Hydrangeas, white Astilbes, Roses and Freesias with silver painted Hazel or Corkscrew Willow branches.

Cocktails

Serve cocktails, which will take off a winter chill with names such as Mulled Wine, The Fireside Cocktail or the Winter Warmer or for those who don’t mind a cool drink – The Snow Angel.  Have the Bourbon Milk Punch or King Eddy’s Non-Alcoholic Punch.  For the kids serve mocktails such as The Snowflake, Mitten Mocktail and Snow Fort.

Menu

Hors D’Oeurves on silver platters and guests help themselves followed by a buffet style dinner.  Blue baskets with white napkins filled with various breads and buns with sweet butter on the dinner tables.

Hors D’Oeurves

Warm Olives and Peppers, Hazelnut Chicken Bites, Individual Mushroom Tarts and a tray of various types of crackers and vegetables with an Herbed Goat Cheese and Roasted Red Pepper Spread.

Soups and Salads

Hale and hearty soups such as Corn and Cheddar Chowder and the Four Mushroom and Barley soup will chase the chills away.  Warm Portobello and Onion Salad or the Onion, Olive and Orange Salad will keep guests happy.

Main Course

Veal Chops with Mushroom and Roasted Garlic is an excellent choice, as is the Chicken Dijonnaise with Mushrooms.  Crushed Red Potatoes with Garlic and French Mashed Potatoes.  Have vegetables such as Brussels sprouts with Shallots and Mustard, Curried Green Beans and Glazed Carrots and Parsnips with Chives.  For the vegetarian and semi-vegetarian guests have Provencal White Beans with Vegetables and Garlic Crumb Crust or Vegetable Biryani.

Dessert

Tempt the guests' palates with Pecan Pie, Rocky Road Truffle Cake, Chocolate Cake with Cocoa Icing and Icy Mountain Cake.

Finish off the meal with French Roast Coffee or Orange Pekoe tea or have specialty coffees such as The Polar Bear, Winter Storm or Evergreen.  A specialty tea would be the Apfel Tea.

Favours

Gloves with a white or silver embroidered snowflake on the back.  Jeweled snowflake ornament, great for Christmas trees or sun-catchers.  Cookies shaped like a snowflake in an ice blue box with white personalized note and tied with a silver bow.  For the kids hand out crazy carpets; they are inexpensive and provide hours of fun in the snow.

Other Nice Touches

Hang from the ceiling, jeweled snowflakes to give the illusion that it is snowing, the light will catch the jewels and throw prisms around the hall.  Have round white nerf balls piled in corners and have a nerf snowball fight.
