Today’s Favours: Fancy, Frugal, and Fabulous!
Brides today are on the lookout for out for unique favours to thank wedding guests for their love and support. By no means are today’s favours required to be lavish and elaborate in nature. In fact, some of the most impressive favours we came across were those that were simple, personal, and reflective of the wedding and the couple.
Here are some unique and affordable ideas we have gathered from real brides across the country:
Customized Cookies: Edible favours are fabulous, and will always be savoured by wedding guests. Have the cookies professionally made or recruit a bake-loving bridesmaid to create them. Our Stoney Creek, Ontario bride had her mother create delicate pink shortbreads for her summer nuptials. Delicious and personal, these cookies can reflect the style, theme, and colour of your big day.
A Family Favourite: One Walkerton, Ontario bride plans to give guests a taste of her mamma’s famous homemade jam. Distributed in tiny glass jars, not only is this favour affordable, but also it is also one-of-a-kind, scrumptious, and gives guests a taste of an old family treat. This type of favour would work well with any family recipe – from cookie dough, to pancake mix, or homemade maple fudge.
A Generous Gift: What better way to say thank you then by sharing the joy of your special day with those in need. Make a donation on behalf of each guest to a charity of your choice, telling guests of their donation on beautifully scripted stationary. This is especially a touching idea if either of you have had close family affected by a particular illness, or helped by a particular charity.
Love Songs: One couple compiled a CD of songs that their rockin’ wedding band was scheduled to play at the reception. Guests were able to sing to the wedding tunes and smile at the memories made during the reception, while on their way back home.
Sweet Confections: One Burlington, Ontario bride told us that her fiancé gave her a tiny box of Fererro Rocher chocolates on their first date. Therefore, it only seemed appropriate that for their favours, they distribute tiny white boxes of the same chocolates, with a little poem explaining the significance of the tasty treat.
Blossoming Love: A Mount Forest, Ontario bride distributed tiny tulip bulbs (wrapped in an ornate organza bag) to each of their wedding guests. Guests were able to plant the bulb in their gardens at home, as a reminder of love’s blossoming beauty.
Love Notes: If you have some spare time before the big day, we loved the favour offered by one Oakville, Ontario couple. All 150 guests at the wedding were surprised to find a personalized note waiting for each of them within their place cards. The bride and groom wrote 4 or 5 lines for each guest, thanking each for coming, and describing how much each individual meant to them.
Favours can be as elaborate or as simple as you see fit. Take some time to reflect on the individuals who are coming to share your special day, and how you can thank them in a sweet, unique, and personal manner. This is definitely an instance where it truly is the thought that counts.
